oFIG Rules Against Dong Fanxiao in Age Scandal

The FIG has canceled Chinese gymnast Dong Fangxiao's results from the 1999 Worlds and 2000 Olympics because she was age ineligible, the federation announced Friday.
Dong was a member of China's bronze medal-winning team at both competitions, but the FIG has determined after a 16-month investigation that her age has been falsified by three years.
The FIG has recommended to the International Olympic Committee that China be stripped of its bronze medal from the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. The IOC has normally held to a statute of limitations of eight years for modifying results.
From 1997 to 2000, Dong competed with a birthdate of Jan. 20, 1983 date of birth, making her 16 years old at the 1999 Worlds in Tianjin and 17 in Sydney. Since 1997, the minimum age for international senior competition has been 16.
Dong's age became an issue during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where the age of Chinese gymnasts were disputed by their rivals. Dong served as a line judge in Beijing, and registered for the event with her date of birth as Jan. 23, 1986.
The U.S. women's team could move up to the bronze If the IOC were to follow the FIG's recommendation. If the FIG strips China of its 1999 world championship result, the bronze medal would go to Ukraine.
The FIG ruled there was insufficient evidence to nullify the results of Dong's teammate Yang Yun, who was also under investigation. In addition to the team bronze in Sydney, Yang won an individual bronze medal on the uneven bars.
Yang came under investigation when a television interview surfaced in which she stated she was 14 in 2000. Yang is now married to 2008 Olympic champion Yang Wei.
"The Committee decided that in the case of Yang Yun the concrete and objective evidence available is insufficient to prove that the birth date indicated on the official documents was falsified," the FIG stated. "Ms. Yang Yun is awarded with a warning for the declaration she made during the interview with CCTV5. The only mention of age in this case was on a television interview."
The FIG will bill the Chinese Gymnastics Association for the cost of the investigation, the federation stated.
Since the 2008 age scandal, the FIG has implemented a licensing system for all competitors, which it hopes will prevent age falsification.
"Young gymnasts cannot be manipulated. Athletes must be protected," FIG President Bruno Grandi said. "To prevent such fraud in the future, a new licensing system has been implemented by the FIG."

Non sto a tradurre tutto l'articolo, comunque la federazione internazionale di ginnastica ha tolto a Dong Fangxiao la medaglia di bronzo vinta alle olimpiadi del 2000 perchè è stato provato che i documenti utilizzati erano stati falsificati.
Nel 2000 i documenti presentati riportavano come data di nascita il 20 gennaio 1983, mentre nel 2008 Dong Fangxiao ha partecipato alle olimpiadi come giudice e i suoi documenti indicavano il 1986 come data di nascita, quindi nel 2000 avrebbe avuto 14 anni e sarebbe stata troppo giovane per partecipare alle olimpiadi.
La FIG non ha "condannato" (non mi viene un termine migliore) anche Yung Yan per mancanza di prove, nonostante lei stessa avesse ammesso in un'intervista di aver partecipato alle olimpiadi di Sydney con una data di nascita falsa.

Hong Su Jung, la donna che visse tre volte
La Federazione Internazionale ha presentato un procedimento disciplinare contro la Federazione Ginnastica della Repubblica Popolare Democratica di Corea e, in particolare, contro la sua ginnasta Hong Su Jung. L’argento al volteggio di Stoccarda 2007, infatti, nel presentare la propria iscrizione ai prossimi mondiali di Rotterdam avrebbe fornito una data di nascita diversa rispetto a ben due precedenti. Alle Olimpiadi di Atene del 2004 e ad Aarhus nel 2006 la volteggista coreana dichiarò di essere nata il 9 marzo del 1985. Ai Giochi Asiatici di Doha, sempre nel 2006 – dove vinse l’oro alle parallele asimmetriche, l’argento con la squadra e un altro al volteggio, nonché un bronzo nell’All-around individuale – si tolse un anno, presentandosi come un’atleta dell’86. E 21 anni continuò ad avere anche la stagione successiva, nel Campionato del Mondo in Germania. Il vero miracolo, però, si sarebbe realizzato tra breve, nella rassegna olandese, che prenderà il via il prossimo 16 ottobre, dove Hong Su Jung - sorella maggiore di Hong Un Jung, medaglia d’oro al volteggio olimpico di Pechino 2008 con uno spettacolare triplo avvitamento – si stava per presentare ringiovanita di altri tre anni. La data del 9 marzo 1986, in verità, coincide con quella della sorella minore, pertanto delle due l’una: o si tratta di uno scambio di persona oppure di una tardiva diagnosi di parto gemellare (sul sito ufficiale della FIG le due atlete riportano identici natali: 09/03/1989, nella città di S. Hamgyong). Scherzi a parte, continua, purtroppo, la dura battaglia di Losanna contro le falsificazioni anagrafiche delle ginnaste dell’Est asiatico. Dopo la squalifica, con 10 anni di ritardo, della cinese Dong Fangxiao, e la restituzione del bronzo di Sydney 2000 al team americano, la Federazione Mondiale rischia un’altra brutta figura. Per ora, comunque, è stata solo avviata una procedura ricognitiva, di cui sono state informate le parti.. -
